So many emotions as I finish this sequel. Its amazing to me how de los Santos could get me to love ALL of her characters by writing in each perspective with such relatable emotional inventories. And oh my goodness! I want to be Cornelia when I grow up!
medium-paced
I picked this one up on whim and was hooked from about page 1. I've read mixed reviews on de los Santos' writing, but I lvoe it. by the end of the book, her characters feel like people you'd like to know. I LOVED Lake. Dev was a pretty good character too - she does a good job of writing him in a way that makes sure you know you're dealign with a child (even a gifted one) - his emotions, responses, etc., seem genuine. Cornelia seems pretty honest as well - how she is dealing with her fertility struggles, being the new girl in a "Housewives of. . ." type of world, and ultimately what she learns about Tao's past.
Look forward to more from de los Santos.

The story line reminded me just a tiny bit of Big Little Lies, but (without checking) I think this came first.
Marisa de los Santos uses language beautifully. In this outing, she returns to the Cornelia, Claire and Teo but the relationships are part of a larger web, one that creates both misery and joy.
So so book ... I found the main characters to be somewhat annoying and I became tired of them after a short while. I did enjoy When Love Walked In by the same author. This book had some of the same characters, plus some new ones. It was all a bit melodramatic for me.
I picked this up on CD at the library. I'm not going to lie, like 90% of the reason is because of our shared first name, but so far I'm enjoying it quite a bit. I'm slightly displeased to learn that this is the second book in a series (this is what happens when you randomly select books based on the author's first name alone) but so far it hasn't mattered.
I actually wound up finishing this by borrowing the print version as well because I can read faster than I can listen!
I really enjoyed it, I can't wait to pick up Love Walked In. The writing is beautiful - it is obviously that de los Santos is also a poet - the characters are believable and well-built, and you can really relate to them. I felt like I knew them personally and was there with them. The writing style is a little hard to adjust to, with the main character narrating maybe 40% of the book in the first person, and then having two other characters narrating maybe 30% each, but in the 3rd person, but once I got used to it I really enjoyed it.
Also, the audiobook is excellent, the reader did a great job of discerning characters and has a very melodic voice.

Chick lit at its best. Very enjoyable characters (Piper, the Martha- Stewart-channeling-neighborhood-queen-bee-viper-tongue-head-case was my favorite) and some clever plot twists. A good mix of sappiness without the sacchrine after-taste.
