I was shocked when I found out that she was making a sequel. At first I was hesitant to read this book because it centered around Chrysantha, the absolutely dimwitted lightheaded snobby older sister of Alessandra. Obviously, when I started reading the book, I found out that wasn't the case and the author does a great job of showing nuances in her character. She gave Chrysantha a unique and likable personality while still maintaining the integrity of Alessandra's from the first book (looking at you SJM). In fact, my favorite part about this book are the characters. I just adore them, maybe even more than the first book.
However, what this book does lack compared to its prequel is a strong plotline. There is plot, but I was kind of disappointed with Eryx's backstory and I really think she could have made a more compelling story. The leadup to it was great, but his reveal was underwhelming, and it didn't feel like there was anything else to it after that. The ending felt rushed (like everything was concluded in the very last chapter) and idk, it just fell flat.
Still giving it 4 stars because GOD. I just love Chrysantha and Eryx.

Honestly so surprised at how much I liked this! It was really like a 4.5 but I rounded up.
I wish we got some more love scenes but the ones we got were great. I hope there’s a novella or something in the works cause I need more of them for sure

I loved the first book (about her sister) so much, and this was such a great surprise. The MFC is spoiled, arrogant, and just a little crazy. I loved her. I loved seeing a FMC that wasn't good with swords or had some great fate, but a woman who simply used her womanly charms to get what she wanted. I need more FMC like her. Diabolical and beautiful and elegant - perfection!

The Darkness Within Us by Tricia Levenseller is the second book in The Shadows Between Us series. This book is about Chrysantha, Alessandro’s sister. Chrysantha has finally won, By hiding her true self and pretending to be an air-headed girl she was able to become a wealthy duchess. However, once her husband passes someone comes stating they are his grandson!
I actually liked this one better than the first one. I think it had a little bit more depth with the characters! I enjoyed the change between the main characters and the fact that we got some more from the other characters from the first book as well.
Definitely was an enjoyable and quick fantasy romance. Easy to read, not a lot of world building, but a lot of romance.
