I struggled so much the first half of this book but then I loved it. I love everything Tricia Levenseller writes, honestly. All of her books are fast-paced, with strong female leads and are easy to breeze through in one or two sittings.

She was lowkey annoying, but I liked the book it was fun.

A countryside manor owned by a dowers duchess with a mysterious new comer to town and his side kicks.

Like I previously started about this series. I would classify this book as a period piece (fictional historical romance) with slight elements of fantasy.

At sometimes I felt that the chapters were too long, but I think that also helped with the pacing because multiple things happened in each section of the chapter.

Well this was so good. I shouldn’t be surprised because I really liked the first one, but I think I was worried this would let me down because Shadows Between Us was so good. It did not.

Chrysantha is so fiery and I love it.  She doesn’t hold back, she fights for what she thinks is hers and somehow also has this tender side. Truly a well developed character.

Also the enemies to lovers, the banter, the fantasy aspects and the intertwining with the first book all worked so well together.

I enjoyed it but even tho the romance had some very good quotes it felt more like the beginning of the story instead of the end.

Surprisingly fun to read, despite it being book 2 of the series and having never read book 1 since this came in my YA Fairyloot box. I didn't feel like I missed out of a lot of information from book 1 where I'm assuming the main character tries to get with the king haha.

It read like a regency romance novel with a bit of a magic twist (not a lot of magic really, just one specific aspect to do with the royalty) so it was easy to read and pick up on the world dynamics. I'd normally say this is like what you would pick up in the adult harlequin romance section at the book store, but there are some modern ish things in it that would drop it to the YA category so it's more accessible.

If you want to read this, think of it like a light read and don't try to take it too seriously lol, some suspension of disbelief necessary for how fast some of the character relationships progress, how people react, etc.
