Did I ask for this book?
- No
Am I still gonna read it?
- Hell Yesss!!

edit:
well i read it!!! and it was so fun!! obviously this wasn't a necessary addition but it sure as hell wasn't a bad one.
Chrysantha is so easy to love. she is fun, loves pink, sarcastic, loves reading, vicious, manipulative, has a mean streak, and is ready to kill a man or two when they get in her way. what's there not to like?
Tricia Levenseller absolutely did her character justice.
The romance was so unbearably adorable too.
constant banter, fighting, arguing with each other. HOT. sign me up anytime.
I did not think this book would serve this hard but it did and no one is happier than me right now.

This is how enemies to lovers is done well. I still half expected her to murder him in the later chapters and loved watching Eryx and Chrysantha begin to understand each other better. They're stuck with each other so it forces them through the 'I hate you' phase and into the 'I'll tolerate you while I plot to get rid of you' phase believably.

This was a fun and funny read and delivered exactly as expected.

The Darkness Within Us is an amazing follow up to The Shadows Between Us. I loved getting to properly know Chrysantha, and watching her relationship with her sister evolve. It was heartwarming. And Chrysantha and Eryx are so chaotic and entertaining in every stage of their relationship.

Overall, a deeply funny, dark and romantic book, with a much appreciated dose of feminine rage.

Absolutely delightful. In the first 30 pages, the heroine murders her lecherous elderly husband, seizes control of his estate, gives the servants a hefty pay raise, and then hits the brothels to learn what she likes in bed. Not dark romance, but certainly unique in the way the heroine (much like her sister in the preceding book) is allowed to connive and murder without judgment.

Much like Mimi Matthews' Rules for Ruins, a tale of two people scrabbling for the same goal (in this case, control of the estate) and realizing they're a matched pair.

Will definitely be looking out for Levenseller's next work.

Tricia does it again. Such a good enemies to lovers, actually hilarious. I did not expect the beauty and the beast plot twist and I’m still not sure how I feel about it tbh, but 4 stars for the banter alone
