Tricia does it again. Such a good enemies to lovers, actually hilarious. I did not expect the beauty and the beast plot twist and I’m still not sure how I feel about it tbh, but 4 stars for the banter alone

dit boek deed mij oprecht niet zoveel. het fantasy element was er bijna niet, de storyline vond ik niet zo boeiend en vooral de fmc niet likeable.

A true enemies to lovers with a supernatural twist is always a fave of mine and I really enjoyed how this one turned out! Definitely liked it more than the first book, a lot more banter and plotting which made it more interesting!
This book follows Alessandra’s sister Chrysantha, who by pretending to be simple minded for years, landed herself an old wealthy duke for a husband. When he finally passes, she’s earned her freedom, as well as his entire estate and fortune for her to live her kid out as she pleases.
That is until an imposter comes, claiming to be the duke’s grandson, putting her freedom and fortune at risk, not to mention the unnatural nature he seems to carry with him. She decides that she must get rid of this fake duke but when new information comes to light, she may have bitten off more than she can chew.
After reading The Shadows Between Us, I had perhaps an unfavourable opinion towards Chrysantha thanks to Alessandra’s strained relationship with her sister, but I’m definitely glad I gave this book a chance because woooo I was hooked.
Loved the true enemies to lovers, with both our main characters trying to be rid of the other while fighting the barely hidden tension. The supernatural aspect was fun too, although I could have done without the drawn out explanation and was really wishing this wasn’t YA because I mean, monster romances are known for certain…things lol iykyk
But overall, the plot was a lot more complex with the murders and disappearances and secret identities. Again another POV really would’ve elevated this book as well, something about hearing about the men yearning especially with all the women empowerment happening would have been the icing on top.

Meh, twas okay at best. I remember liking the first book so I’m kinda surprised, but then again I was depressed back then so I cant trust my taste
NOT as fun as book 1 but still very, very fun. Unfortunately I'm still smitten with Alessandra and Kallias
