En fin, es una serie de seis apéndices, cada uno aborda diferentes temas. Creo que sí es primordial, si son muy fans y quieren conocer recovecos de la historia, leer estas menos de 200 páginas.

3.5. Some of these appendices are perfect, lovely additions to Middle Earth - the story of Arwen and Aragorn, for example. I particularly loved getting more about the Fellowship's lives after Return of the King. Other stuff was interesting but not essential reading, like the history of men and dwarfs in the Second Age. Some of the appendices were only skimmable, like all the stuff about language. Impressive, but not readable unless you're a total Tolkien diehard and know how to speak Elvish (or want to learn).

I admit I skipped most of the chapter on calendar differences between every culture in Middle Earth, it just didn't seem necessary. Pretty excited to reference it though

This is my way of logging the appendices of LOTR, along with the prelude and other front matter in my editions of Fellowship. I never actually read these during either of my reads of the trilogy…so I figured I could redeem that later rather than never.

The Tale of Years is marvelous. Other things, like the sections of writing and pronunciation, are too nerdy to function—for me. I’m in awe, but I also aint reading all that.

It’s surprising to me that Fellowship begins with a Prelude bound to scare away most people walking into the lore for the first time. No wonder I didn’t bother reading it when I was a kid.

Love how Tolkien isn’t afraid to throw shade at various publishers in his foreword.

I think (hope) these readings will settle my mind and allow me to leave this world on my shelves for a while.

Who knew appendices could be this interesting?!
Fills in much of the backstory of both characters and events.

A great and informative read on the lore and history of MiddleEarth. A book that can be read on the side, I feel, as it is more of the historical insight rather than an actual story.
Pick it up, give it a go and enjoy! >(^_^)<
