I knew nothing about the Greek Gods and Goddesses (still don’t) and yet, I was still able to follow the storyline pretty well. The art in the book is beautifully drawn and colorful. The characters are drawn with a suggestive hand but they are gods and I think that works well with the thinking that these beings are out of this world and always looked upon for intrigue and worship.

But since I know nothing about Greek gods I do wish there was an appendix or family tree to see who belongs with whose family. I had to Google when I got confused. Other than that I do think this is a great starter for those who are interested in starting to read graphic novels or learn more about the Greek gods in a more fiction sort of way.

Trigger warning: There are scenes of abuse and fowl language.

This was a no for me because of how much Persephone gets infantilized. She’s 19 in every sense while Hades is over 2000 and looks 45. What makes it all worse though is how the other Gods and even Hades views Persephone as a kid and even treat her as one. Here are some quotes proving that.

Eros right at the beginning of the series gets Persephone purposely drunk requested by Aphrodite. “Hey kiddo want to have some fun?”

Hera when lecturing Hades about persuing Persephone “She’s young, easy to impress and won’t argue. I can’t believe you’re like that.”

Hermes, Apollo, and Persephone talking about Hades. Apollo says Hades is only nice to her for nsfw reasons and Hermes replies with . “I know, but she’s a kid go easy.”

Hera talking to Persephone about her age since Gods stop aging at some point. “Forever 19 lucky you.”

Another example is when Hades realizes Persephone’s age. She ends up saying something and he’s like “That’s something a teenager would say.” Then later on would connect the dots and says to himself “That’s because she is one.” Soon after that Hades was actually willing to stay in a toxic relationship because he had an issue with Persephone’s age which definitely says something about this whole situation.

Then at one point Ares decided to mess with Persephone using his powers a little too much and Hades lectures him while cradling Persephone as he says “She’s not even a century old she can’t handle that much power.”

Also at some point after a paparazzi takes a pic of Hades and Persephone walking together someone comments “Hades looks like someone’s Dusty Old Dad.”

There are more quotes like these and they definitely don’t help beat any DDLG accusations. This isn’t even the most problematic part of LO but it’s still something worth mentioning.

1.5 stars- the story was an all together catastrophe; so much going on with so little direction. It feels as though it is purposely being drawn out, not in a delicate masterful way, leaving me to want more, but a mundane, mess of a pull, dragging out unnecessary bits and pieces until they are spread so thin all essence/ identity has been lost. The overall story is drowned in uninteresting subplots that offer nothing, not even a morsel of entertainment. It's becoming the Grey's Anatomy - or any poorly written tv drama of your choice -of webtoon. It feels like the author is trying to cling to the series instead of letting it end naturally. I can't even focus on the whole point of the series- hades and Persephone's relationship- because every five seconds I have to read about some other great family drama. The only useful subplot with Apollo *thumbs down* , seems like an attempt to bring Persephone closer to Hades which made me as a reader pretty uncomfortable (it wasn't handled sensitively). Out of all the plot devices to be used, she had to use that one. Then there's the whole modernization of Olympus, but not on earth I guess? Anyways last time I checked in today's day and age, incest isn't very cash money. But it's ok because they're so cute together uwuwuwuu. Then there's the age gap which also is pretty weird. Not to mention the whole hades being her boss thing last I checked this wasn't a soccer mom CEO romance ( honestly best plot twist in the series yet, good job Rachel ) So Persphone and her Double Uncle Sugar Daddy Boss-Man have a pretty interesting situation going on. Then there's the whole concept of her being so cute and innocent and omg he's not plus omg he has a tragic backstory and I just don't like stuff like that it's always so creepy especially in this case with the age gap, so the dynamic doesn't redeem the situation. Hades interest in her is also weird just everything that has to do with this couple makes me uncomfortable. like he falls for her because shes so pretty uwu, then continues to pursue her despite having a girlfriend sure his girlfriend sucks but that's no excuse to cheat, he also kinda sucks it takes two to tango anyways. Plus I'm just not the biggest fan of the art style (its inconsistent, the panels are poorly planed, everyone looks the same and wouldn't be identifiable in greyscale etc) but thats not what I'm here to criticize.

tldr: the story is overwhelming (way too long , too many subplots, the actual relationship seems to be thrown to the back of the bus ), their relationship isn't very interesting either, not something i was passionately advocating for

I enjoyed this. It was a couple hours of graphic novel that held my interest, made me smile, and patted my knowledge of Greek myth on the head, which always makes a classical education feel nice.
