It's good but there's other material out there calling to me, like Breathing Underwater (Richard Rohr) and Autobiography of a Yogi (Paramahansa Yogananda)

It felt circuitous, contradictory, and shallow. I only read this because it was Rick Rubin and it matched my expectations of a white guy's take on Eastern philosophy.

Gnomic. Maybe obvious? Contradictory? Spiritual.

Overall, I found this book to be incredibly enjoyable. The style of writing and how the lessons flow into one another really allow the reader to get lost. Many of the ideas and feelings are things I've already known/had, but the simplicity of how it is written takes it to deeper meaning. The best part is that my husband could jump in anywhere and not be lost in the story and pick up the lessons.

There is a reason why this is one of the top books on creativity out there. And now that knowledge is mine.  Well worth a read. It’s sure to enhance any form of art

Interesting perspective from Rick Rubin with more emphasis on the music part of art. Overall a bunch of unrelated, short blurbs on creating art.
Loved this quote:

The reason we’re alive
is to express ourselves in the world.
And creating art may be the most
effective and beautiful method of doing so.
Art goes beyond language, beyond lives.
It’s a universal way to send messages.
between each other and through time.
