This was an interesting plot. I liked the murder mystery about it. There wasn’t any romance. And there is something going on with the statues but it wasn’t a main plot. Which was a little confusing.

I like Madison and her leaning into her powers. She has a flighty personality which got a little annoying. Her friends didn’t seem like friends? They were just there.

Overall I liked the concept of this book. The murder mystery was well done and interesting. The random potion creating didn’t flow well. I don’t think I will continue the series.

I had never heard of this Series of books until I was asked to read them as an Advance reader copy with the hopes I would like it and review it.

Madison seems like the girl next door, small town cheerleader with a football player for a boyfriend. So in love with Beau that she is waiting for him to pick a College so she will know where to apply. Then as often happens in Oklahoma, bad weather, a tornado hits.

She uses her gifts to protect her best friend but in doing so tragedy befalls Beau ... can she survive this? How can she make sure this never happens again? She goes to La Voisin, a school for witches to learn to harness her Gifts. She learns there is so much more to her than parlor tricks and minor abilities. She also gets what could be the worst roommate ever, best new friends ever and the worst situation ever all in the span of a few months!

How will this all turn out for Madison?

I really liked Madison as she has had a raw in life and decides to take control after a devastating accident. La Voisin Academy for witches might help her with her powers but it is still high school with mean girls, new friends, pressure to excel, but they also have murder and ghosts. We get to see Madison not only try and fit in at school but also try and solve a murder with the help of her friends which leads to suspense, mystery, laughs and intrigue. I can't wait to read book two and see what happens next!.

This book hits the ground running. It is full on until the last sentence. I can't wait for the next installment. You will be sure you have figured out who done it and then blown away when it isn't them.

I was given an ARC in exchange for my honest review.
This was the first I have ever read a book by Rebecca Hamilton. I was intrigued by the summary, especially knowing the main character is a witch. From the first chapter, I was hooked.
