Thoroughly enjoyed reading this aloud with my students. The characters' voices come through beautifully, and the way Curtis describes a child's imagination makes the story feel so real. Heartwarming, silly, humorous, devastating, thought-provoking... it checks a lot of boxes!
Highly recommend!

Such an amazing book! I would highly recommend reading this, it keeps the reader interested while also being a short read. I give this 5/5 stars.
This is the 3rd book I've read by this author. I love his style of writing, and character development. Great books, great subject matter. Definitely recommended for tweens and teens.

If you’ve been following me for a while, you know that I love a book with some strong character development. I think this is especially important in Middle Grade novels because kids need to either be able to see themselves in a character or be able befriend, trust, and learn from a character that is different from them. Unfortunately, Bud, Not Buddy lacked the characters that I look for in a story. Some characters were very lovable, like Mr. Lewis, the grandfather that drives Bud to find his father and Ms. Thomas, but generally, most fell flat. While we were supposed to love the band members that took Bud in, there were too many for me to keep them straight and attach to any of them in particular. Overall, this made the book feel particularly slow for me.

I absolutely loved reading this book, school or not. It's great, and I highly recommend it.
The story, told from the point of view of a ten year old is engaging and funny. Love the fact that it gives kids a glimpse into the time period.
