Book #31 Read in 2016
Poop Fountain by Tom Angleberger

For the title alone, this book would hook middle school readers. Three friends will be alone on Christmas and want to have an exciting adventure. They decide to sneak in to see the town's poop fountain, which will be closing down in the near future. Of course their adventure is not without mishap which leaves to some stinky situations. This is the first in a series. It was a quick read, told in a journal/diary format with illustrations.

Another accessible fun book for elementary-aged readers. I would not say this one was as good as Angleberger's Origami Yoda series, but I have not found many authors who can consistently be awesome. This one is good for both boys and girls who are looking for mild gross-out humor and characters they can relate to.

Cute. I think kids will like this. There are plenty of kids who can relate to portions of the book. I like the format of writing, and the unofficial notes.

Far more about adventure and friendship than about that creepy rat. :)

Read it before it was repackaged and published -- hope the series will continue now! Super excited to add to my library at school since I've been selfish with my copy!

Loved this sequel--seems like I've waited forever to hear more from the characters. I'm already anticipating book 3 as there are several major problems at the end of this story that make it a bit of a cliff hanger.

Lyle, Marilla, and Dave hang out at the Qwikpick gas station and convenience store where Lyle's parents work. Realizing that they each have nothing to do on Christmas Day for a variety of reasons, they end up planning an adventure to visit the "poop fountain" at their town's waste treatment management center. Scheduled to be closing in order to be replaced with updated technology, they want to see it before it is gone for good. Told through photos, notes, and journal entries, this is a great adventure through the outskirts of suburbia. I am so glad that I couldn't smell what they were describing! Recommended for grades 3-6.

ARC provided by publisher.
This is a new version of the previously published 2007 edition.

Ok so this was weird, I like a fart gag as much as the next guy, unless he is the guy you farted on of course, but you know Poop Fountain? It was a strangely designed book, almost ergodic in style but really just did not overtly grab me, it was humorous in parts and the author is it seems someone who ikes =the absurd, but this had something missing.

Second book in the series follows on from the first, and again feels slightly flat, although it does have some good moments. Not Anglebergers best that I have read, and I am looking forward to one day reading the origami books, this one was OK but not that great.
