Another K-9 romantic suspense story with great human and canine characters!
Carly Harrington-Reese saves the life of Noah Glover and his K-9 fire/explosive sniffing partner, Harley. She then gets caught up in solving the mystery of who tried to kill Noah and Harley and just why anyone would want to. With an arsonist on their heels, an arson investigator being fed erroneous clues and Carly’s business to get ready to open there is little time for Carly and Noah to spend exploring their attraction for one another…but they did find some and when they did…oh my! I think one of my favorite parts of the book had to do with kisses and the variety of them that exist in the world – might even want to google to see if there are more ;)
Thank you to NetGalley and St. Martin’s Press for the ARC. This is my honest review.

Liked it, though it is different from others in the series in that the K9 doesn't have as large an involvement in the plot. Harley (the dog) does play a pretty important part at the end, but for most of the book he's a secondary character. I did like Noah and Carly a lot, and the southern urban setting isn't something I've read a lot of. Noah's son Andy is a bit of a secondary plot moppet, but he's absent for most of the book.
I received this book as an Advance Readers Copy from Netgalley.com - I have always loved D.D. Ayres writing, Her latest is a very fine example of her writing, I love how she creates her characters and their stories, Carly is a ex-fashion model looking for somewhere quiet to start her new business and Noah is an fire investigator looking to beat the demons from the past. D.D Ayres has done a great job combining these two characters and developing their stories. I can't wait to read her future stories.
Fifth book in the series, but each is meant to be able to read as a standalone. This story includes a hot fire detective and an ex model. And don't forget is k9 partner, Harley. There is a little violence but some very nice hot scenes.
She is just about to open her first store but instead is saving an unconscious man with the help of his K9. Together the two will solve try and solve the mystery and hopefully not get each other killed.
I received through NetGalley and voluntarily read and reviewed a copy of the book.

Just loved Noah, this is a great addition to a super series not my favorite in the series but still a brill read.I recommend this series
Explosive Forces is book five in the K-9 Rescue series by D.D. Ayres. This one stands on it’s own. The only connecting factor between Explosive Forces and the other books in this series is the kennel the K-9 was trained at, yet that’s just a mention.
Carly is sassy, fiery, and goes after what she wants. Noah is a single dad, good at his job, and all out sexy alpha male with his adorable K-9 partner Harley.
Explosive Forces starts off strong with our heroine, Carly, saving the life of our hero, Noah, and his K-9 partner, Harley. It’s a fiery and explosive encounter in more ways then one. Their is no slow burn for this couple. They pretty much take off from the get go even though they don’t know each other. Ones life and carrier is in danger and the others business is about to not get off the ground. There’s an intense plot, it's fast-paced, entertaining, and full of sweetness that only a K-9 can add too.
I’d classify their romance as insta-love/lust that somehow ended up working out pretty well. I wasn’t overly happy with how quickly these two got together and I will say I was a bit disappointed we didn’t get to see or spend time with Noah’s son. Though I understand why he was out of the picture. The man wants to keep his family safe while he tries to discover who’s out to kill him and his partner.
Explosive Forces was more suspenseful and lighter on the romance, but I enjoyed it. I liked watching these two try to figure out who was framing Noah. The suspense was nicely done. Keeping me on my toes and kept turning those pages to find out what would happen next.
Ayres has definitely climbed on my “must read” list with this phenomenal series. I’m relishing each and every novel in the K-9 Rescue series which gives us a touch of danger, loyal canine companions, fierce heroines, and tantalizing heroes.

I really enjoyed this story. It was interesting and a little different than the prior ones since this time we had a arson fire detective and explosive detection K9. Carly ends up helping a drugged Noah and tied up Harley out of a fire next door to her shop. Noah is being framed for arson and set up to look like he was killing himself. The evidence is starting to stack up against him and the biggest problem is they can't quite figure out who another suspect could be. Once Carly starts getting more details and believes Noah, she can't just leave it alone and their connection starts to build. They aren't supposed to be together due to her being a witness and Noah being a suspect but her mind just keeps digging and they are drawn to each other. I thought the story was interesting and entertaining. I was engaged and enjoyed the story the entire time. It had a few twists as well. This is the 5th in the series but it is a complete standalone. It didn't really have any characters that had been introduced in any of the past stories in this one.
The narrator did a good job with the story.

Carly Harrington-Reese works late one night in her soon-to-be-opened boutique when she hears an animal whimpering from the next door unit. She discovers an unconscious Noah Glover and his service dog, Harley, and barely has time to rescue them before the place erupts in fire. Noah is an arson investigator but all evidence points in his direction this time as the perpetrator. And Carly is caught squarely in the middle.
I really liked the mystery/suspense angle of the story, especially the inclusion on the real arsonist's point of view (but we still have to guess his identity). I also appreciated the added diversity as Carly is a former super model who happens to be Black. Unfortunately, the "romance" between Carly and Noah was more a lust-fest and it was difficult to swallow their instant love after only knowing each other a few days. There was a missed opportunity here to develop this relationship, including Noah's role as a single parent.
As with the other books in the series, Harley is the real star of the show, displaying his exceptional skills as an explosives expert while also illustrating his relationship to his handler. I read the series primarily for that education and this book delivered. If that's your main interest and you like mystery and suspense, you'll still enjoy the story despite the flaws in the romance. I'm still a faithful fan and look forward to the next book. 3.5 stars

Three and a half stars.
I didn't enjoy this novel as much as some of the others in the series. Harley was kind of incidental to the story (although having said that, he was fundamental to the start and end, so what I'm saying is that he didn't feature much in the middle).
Noah is an arson investigator, kind of a cross between a fireman and a policeman. Carly is a former model who is opening up an arts and crafts shop with exclusive designs. One night while finalising her display prior to opening she hears a dog whining. When she goes to investigate she finds a guy, Noah, unconscious in a deserted warehouse with a dog tied up beside him. Just as she tries to untie the dog the warehouse catches fire and she has to rescue both Noah and his dog, Harley.
Noah has no recollection of how he wound up in the warehouse but his boss and colleagues all received a suicide text, there is also damning evidence that Noah started the fire - on compulsory leave and under investigation Noah turns to Carly to understand what happened.
I liked this, heck I like all D.D. Ayres' novels, but TBH I have read this plot before. Arsonist tries to frame someone in retaliation for perceived slight. It also didn't help that I had reviewed another book within the same week which also had an arsonist. I'm not sure that Carly and Noah's shared experiences with previous lovers added much to the plot other than the feeling of massive coincidence, as if only they could understand how the other felt.
Nevertheless, if you haven't read a novel recently about an arsonist trying to frame an innocent man this is a taut, well-written suspense.
