This was another book that turned out to be a pleasant surprise. Initially I thought this was going to be too juvenile for me to read and it took some time to get settled into the world. Once I did, I really enjoyed the story.

It was action packed and while a little over the top (this is classified as Middle Grade, so some of the more outlandish bits were understandable), it was a fun and fast-paced read. The author was able to weave the importance of friendship and loyalty into the story, as well, which I liked.

Overall this was an enjoyable read and if I can find the other books I will continue the series. This is a good book if you just want something simple and non-complicated to read. It has a few twists and turns in it to keep you interested and engaged, just go in with the understanding that adults were not the target audience and let yourself enjoy it.

*Side-Note: I'm assuming it was because of the cover art, but, I pictured a cartoon playing in my head while I read this. I tried but couldn't picture the characters as "real" people. I don't think I've every done that before.

I read [b:The Fourth Stall|5896014|The Fourth Stall|Chris Rylander|https://d.gr-assets.com/books/1402860332s/5896014.jpg|6068295] when it first came out. I had some issues with that but loved Rylander's style so I was excited to see what he would do with the secret agent/spy angle. He did really really well. Great characters, great action, and exactly the right amount of tongue-in-cheek humor.

A middle school boy in the middle of nowhere North Dakota. A secret Agency, a boy he needs to protect. It’s the basis of every kids mystery novel ever, and it could have been great or it could have been terrible. Instead it was just meh. There were definitely a few funny parts, and there was an emphasis on idioms but overall I felt like this book just didn’t quite hit the mark.

Even though I love Spy School, this book was not for me.   It was too juvenile, which it should be since I am not the intended audience.

Carson Fender is an ordinary 13 year old and is the Schools very accomplished prankster. Carson is very fed up with his boring life with the same routine every day until he receives a box and is told not to open it. Everything begins to get exciting for Carson and very unusual things begin to happen to him and although he doesn't realise it, his friend Dillon is not far from the truth.

Codename Zero is a fantastically well written book with lots of action and mysteries which Carson has to deal with without anyone finding out. The book by Chris Ryland leaves you wanting more and wanting to find out what his next adventure will be and what mischief he will get up to.

Would definitely recommend this book to anyone who likes a book with a good twist and lots of excitement!

Where was the humor? We started out with the school's best prankster, but the guy who unleashed a herd of fainting goats on the school so he (and his friends) could glue classrooms and offices shut isn't the guy we get through the rest of the book - and that's not great. There were many times I was convinced that his caper was just some elaborate prank on him but, well, no. If only the book hadn't just missed with the mixture of humor to action...

A fun, humorous, exciting middle grades spy/conspiracy story that will appeal to the boys in my classroom.

A bit too predictable for my taste, but the short, action-packed chapters are sure to appeal to reluctant readers. Overall a fast and fun read. Perfect for fans of Stuart Gibbs and the Spy School series.

3.5/5 stars.

This is an amazing book. It made burst out laughing and also had me feeling like it was my life on the line instead of Carson's. I would recommend this book to anybody who liked suspense and comedy.
