Couldn’t sleep and this book was on my nightstand after picking it up at a friends of the library sale for morbid curiosity.

It was a quick read with great manga art that translated the original book quickly.

My feelings on the Clique series as a whole are muddled with perspective and time. When I was young, I loved this series. Everyone knew it and it was a fad celebrating fads. It was my introduction to bratty tweens and designer labels, but somehow the lessons in it of insecurity in your own self, being the new kid in school and trying to fit in, and surviving middle school persist. There are truly heartfelt moments in this story of friendship heartbreak and putting on an image, yet cracking it to show one’s true self that shines through in vulnerable moments.

I’m honestly curious what I would think of this series as an adult, were I to reread it. Is it something I’d want the next generation reading when so much of it is materialism and cattiness toward other women, or would the humanity break through? To be determined... The fact that this series is so memorable and that I spent my money and time to own it and read it all those years ago makes me think it might just hold up. It could be a great discussion piece.

Thus one was really cute! Not one of the best out there and prolly wont be reading the actual books but I'm glad I read the graphic novel so I at least know about it now!

Okay, so I understand why my 7th grade girls love this- it has mean girls, a normal girl seeking revenge, boys, shopping, annoying brothers, and embarrassing parents, but oh my goodness I am glad that I didn't read the entire novel and went for the graphic novel. I probably would have loved it when I was in middle school too, but now it is just... not.

I AM very happy that I read the graphic novel, though, because it will give me enough info to connect with these girls and discuss the characters and such.

Also, I was wondering if anyone noticed how old they looked? More like 17 than 12...

(BTW, loved the Clueless reference in it)

Wasn't half bad. I really liked the art style of this book. I felt like the story lacked a plot but other than that it's a pretty standard mean girl clique story.

A simple, quick read. I liked how the story had a lot of twists and turns when it came to who was nice and who was not. The other books should also be published in this style, it was visually pleasing and gave me a good idea of the story.

Aw this was cute. I loved the drawing style (why can't people really look like that?) but wish the flow of conversation went better. But all their outfits were super cute.

Lisi Harrison's The Clique actually translated really well through graphic novel/manga form. The author's original emphasis on style and designer clothing is fun to see interpreted through an illustrator's eyes. Fans of the Clique series will really like this.

I couldn't sleep last night and saw this on KU—thought it would be fun to re-visit a childhood favorite.

3.5/5 stars

The illustrations are beautiful and I thoroughly enjoyed seeing one of my favorite books of my Jr. High years unfold on the page. The issue was, as many other readers have pointed out, that divorcing this story from Harrison's satirical voice and from the mean girls' insecurities highlighted in the book makes this feel like a cruel story inappropriate for Middle Grade readers.
