He emphasizes the importance of traveling within to discover one’s self. His travels include his experiences in med school, international journeys as well as spiritual happenings. He keeps an open mind to inexplicable phenomena, which makes the book that much more interesting. It inspires me to have my own experiences and see the world for myself.

The multi-talented Michael Crichton strikes again!
With books like Jurassic Park and Congo, and movies like Westworld on his résumé its very easy to become fascinated by mr. Crichton. This autobiographical book gives us a unique peek into his mind and personal world.
Crichton passed away in 2008. If I could choose a dead person to meet - it would definitely be him. The way he thinks about life, the world, other people, our actions and feelings are very inspirational. Reading this book makes you wanna head out on your own journey.
This book is also full of inspirational quotes:
"You need to realize that there is no drug you can take, no trip to another place in the world, no new person to have a relationship with. None of these things will get you where you want to go. What you are looking for isn`t out there. You must stop looking outside. You must go in."

I’m not sure how to review this book... the first part about his days in medical school was interesting to me. Most of the stories after that made him seem like a person I don’t really desire ever meeting. On the other hand, as someone who benefits greatly from meditation, I appreciated his stories about his retreats and how meditation changed him.
I appreciate him being so open about his reality and choosing not to sugar-coat anything or paint himself in a more appealing light. It takes courage to be so raw and honest. Still, I’m unsure as to whether I like him as a person.
This book is both incredibly insightful and incredibly entitled and shallow at times... I couldn’t wait to finish it but I also enjoyed (almost) every second of it.

Help, I’ve fallen in love with Crichton and I can’t get up.
God. Damn. What a book.
I feel like even I am evolved from reading his words. This book is more than just his travels. It also encompasses his honest, raw thoughts, new ideas and perspectives he gained from each experience. It is a book about self discovery in every aspect. You take an entire introspective journey with him through his writing.
I think Michael was brilliant, honest and beyond his time.
RIP a literary legend. The goat.

Well written, interesting to learn personal details about the author and to travel with him through his stories Gets deep into mysticism in the back half, which is intriguing but hard to know how much to take at face value.

The beginning of this book had me hooked. I found the way the author wrote to be intriguing, even if I normally wouldn’t be interested in the topic. He lost me a bit towards the end, but I think that was simply due to the fact that I didn’t have much experience or interest in the topic he became so invested in. Overall, it was a book that prompted me to examine how I engage with differing beliefs and practices other than my own. I enjoyed it.
