I found this book interesting, although a little infuriating at times. I enjoyed the short digestible chapters. I to coincide with the character of George Cross. I found the plot a little woolly. Cross seemed to share his progress of the case with potential suspects or people of interest which didn’t seem right to me. I was expecting cleverer finale but they just seemed to solve the case very quickly and it wasn’t really a twist. I feel like it had potential, but just fell a little flat. I also didn’t like how the author constantly reminded you that George was on the spectrum. I feel like it was drummed in when just mentioning it once and then subtly incorporating it would been preferred- but they kept referring to it. An easy read that could’ve been better.

Book three in the DS George Cross series begins with a distraught mother who is convinced that the recent death of her daughter -Flick - is not suicide as has been recorded. Cross - the brilliant unique on-the-spectrum detective - pledges to look into it and believes that the mother could actually be correct.
I love this series with Cross going against hunches and feelings and needing to follow evidence and facts while his colleagues can only watch and learn in admiration. His quirks are a combination of annoyance and surprise to those around him as he aims to uncover exactly what has happened to Flick.
There are some matters in the story that are going to split readers and a couple of genuinely moving moments and one in particular will be interesting to see how it's developed.
Fast paced, a bit different but highly recommended and engrossing.

The series keeps getting better and better. I love that the writing reflects Cross's own personality - calm, precise, logical, unemotive. The twists and turns in this one had me guessing to the end. Or rather, had me second guessing myself to the end. Bravo!
