I like this book but I didn’t like how the little girl I missed the bus because missing the bus used to scare me back in the day like I was just have dreams where I missed the bus after school and I would panic unless that was something that really happened I don’t remember but she had fun playing in all the different rooms in school. I couldn’t wait to get out of school.

Silly beginning chapter book about a kindergartner’s first day of school.

I read this aloud to my 4 year old. If she were to score this, she would have scored it higher. She gets really into the story line and can't wait to read a little bit every night. So I keep reading.

But she doesn't know that I skip over all the nasty comments Junie B. has to share and correct the horrible grammar (I get it, supposed to be part of her character, but I'm not a fan of that in children's books.) I'm bummed, because I've heard wonderful things about Junie B and I couldn't believe the things this kid gets away with saying and her attitude. Maybe if the book ended with a bit more of a correction for her behavior, it wouldn't bother me so much! That being said, it does give us a wonderful opportunity to talk about if Junie B. is saying or doing the right things, and what would have been a better way for her to handle the situation.

I'm sure for an older child, who would be reading this on their own, Junie B.'s attitude wouldn't be quite as offensive. However, I am glad that we're getting these out of the way now, so I can 'sensor' it a bit. We'll finish reading through the ones she was given as a gift, because she just can't wait to read the next one, and I love her sudden enthusiasm for 'chapter' books. But I will be sure to have a different series ready for her when we get to our last Junie B book.

No one makes me laugh like Miss Junie B. !!! We love her, what an icon.
Seriously, reading this with my partner had us both cracking up. I might even just re-read the whole series!

I love Junie B.

Accurately portrays the emotional life and voice of almost-six year olds. The intentional language misuse is annoying at times and the plot was a little skimpy, but I can definitely understand why these are so popular with the K-3 crowd.

I bought this for my 5 year old daughter's first chapter book. It was ok but I just couldn't get over how Junie B talks. She says words incorrectly and uses words like stupid which I try to steer my daughter away from both. I will probably read a few more to my daughter as she seems to enjoy them but I feel like it could definitely be better.

I’ve been reading this to the tiny humans while in line for drop off each morning. They love it. It’s fun and funny, but Junie B is a bad little girl. I regularly change out the text, so instead of “hating that boy” sh “doesn’t like that boy.” Otherwise, it makes the kiddos laugh and helps them be in a good mood to start the day.

Junie B. has horrible grammar by the middle I started reading the way the book should have read. At no point do I want my five year old to think "hider" is a word. While reading my five year old also pointed out several times "Junie B. should not be doing that". I think we'll pass on the other books in this series.
