I was really excited to read this book since I've read all of Jones' other books and loved them, but this one not so much. Though there are so really great moments, for the most part it seems way to far fetched, random, and I was not a fan of the "surprise" meeting at the end. At parts it seemed as though someone was writing about how they thought teenagers actually talk, not how they actually talk. I will not be reading the next book in the series (I'm guessing it is a series) but I will be checking out Jones' other work.
Meh. I had to push myself to finish it, but I can see where the teens would like it. Audio narrator did a good job, but it still didn't keep my attention.
Had a lot of good moments and action that will satisfy most readers, but in my opinion, this book took itself far too seriously especially with this setup. Beyond that it's it's pretty good. Just needs to laugh at itself a bit more.
2.5 Good idea, not really delivered well. So much could have been improved. ‘Plot twists’ not surprising, somethings didn’t make sense.
Fun read. A little far-fetched, but who doesn't enjoy a cheerleader kicking some alien butt?
An enjoyable, amusing YA that resembled the love-child of Men in Black and Buffy.
This was super weird which is usually my thing but it didn’t quite hit like it should. I think it was all the attempts to be humorous it just came across corny and took you out of the moment.
This book was very good. I enjoyed this read. It was a fun, easy, summer read full of lots of Sci-fi action. I enjoy Carrie Jones writing, so I knew I would love this one. It was chock full of sarcasm, humor, adventure, and a badass heroine. I found myself laughing out loud a various moment durning the read. I can't say again how much I enjoyed this book, perfect, light read.

I think the writing style was really unexpectedly charming! I went in not really expecting much from this one, so it was a pleasant surprise to see this novel had so much genre-awareness and fun banter between characters. The almost campy way dialogue is written feels fun, and made spending time with these characters such a breeze. I really like Mana, she's an easy to like protagonist and I love the sense of preppy teenage girl humor she has even in tense situations (which can be said about Lyle and Seppie, honestly) That being said, the pace of the writing kind of drops the ball for me story-wise. While it had me engaged in the first half, lafer on it feels too slow in many parts, and I don't find that sense of tension or impact I want to have during more serious moments, neither do I feel as grounded as I'd like in the environments of scenes. The one section I feel did that for me was Lyle's doppelganger moment , but it was one scene that was followed up with a somewhat messy and hard to engage in sequence. That being said, for the characters alone I ended up enjoying Flying enough, and I'm happy to follow the series!
