Gorgeous and heartbreaking and lovely and yearning. Stevenson is one of the best storytellers we have right now, and it’s been a real privilege to follow her trajectory from 2011 to 2019. I can’t wait to see how she continues to grow as an artist and writer!

This is a sweet yet brief (and sometimes too much so) narrative about learning to love and forgive your past selves. I like that the details of the stories that lead the author to his written reflections are told mostly through the illustrations, and that the art in the book itself reflects the growth of the author. A good pick to finish in one sitting!

Stevenson's graphic memoir is about her journey as an artist and a human, especially her college years and the years of launching her career after. I really enjoyed reading about the ways that Stevenson overcame challenges on her path to love and self-acceptance, personally and professionally. Her memoir shares reflections from the years that took her from art student, to award-winning graphic novel artist, to working with the rebooted animated series She-Ra and the Princesses of Power. I'm not sure that this one would hit as hard with those unfamiliar with Stevenson's work, but it definitely shares a message of loving and believing in yourself.
