Overall, I think it’s good, but it wasn’t a very enjoyable read or a book I was able to like easily. It was quite tiring and boring for me to read, but I think that’s just because it’s really not my style. I found Ophelia’s character development to be very sexist and completely unnecessary. But the play’s intent is to be a complete tragedy. I watched the play in the theater in a school field trip and it was a really great experience, the actors were super lovely and their performances were amazing, but reading the play just didn’t grab me at all.

So many references I now understand. Related a lil too hard to Hamlet’s breakdown
Read this over the last two days in anticipation of seeing Haider. I've read this before but it was, oh, 13 years ago and I didn't retain that much of it. While I've long been disabused of the idea that Shakespeare should be treated with silent reverence, somehow he still manages to surprise me every time I take on his work. Hamlet, I rediscovered this weekend, is downright visceral. Literally (lots of talk of blood and guts and decay) and figuratively. And like Romeo and Juliet, there are moments where it gets so damn funny you forget how it's bound to end up. It's a very compelling, very human play.
