I read this for uni and it was really interesting and informative and made me think but I didn't agree with all the arguments, some of them being quite sexis or homophobic, and some of the psycho-analytical aspects were questionable...

Some good takes, but overall problematic

While Fanon makes many interesting and good points regarding the black identity, more often than not he presents problematic and controversial statements. Specifically in regards to (black) women and Jews. Overall, these latter messages did tend to override some of his good remarks, however, this book does mark its importance to black intellects and literature. Thus, in turn is to be criticized for both its positives and negatives.
informative

The book is definitely an important look into how racism, capitalism, and colonialism not only physically and economically impact us, but also psychologically. However, there were some chapters that I had to DNF/SKIP due to the misogynistic language that was used to describe the relationship of "colored women & white men". There are definitely some limitations in Fanon's writing in terms of gender
fast-paced

I wanted to give it 3 starts but taking into account the time when it was written and for it's audience it is worth 4 stars. This is a psychoanalytical (think Freud) dissection of the French black man's condition with respect to themselves and to white people (both men and women). It's an interesting read and provides a well explained analysis of what it is like to exist as a French black man in the time period with some parts having parallels today. If you can't read it all, read the last 3 chapters.

I liked how Fanon divided his analysis but found some of the patient extracts and context of colonial France and colonised North Africa a bit confusing (I need to read more to understand I guess).

I like Fanon’s hope, resilience and how he continues to question till the end of the book.
