DID NOT FINISH

Turns out I don’t have the brain or heart capacity for anything other than romance this year. Will try again in 2024 or whenever I start feeling like I can handle actual topics.

4.5! I do not agree with some of Fanon’s takes in this book, but I deeply respect what he did here and will be thinking about it for a long time! Wish he had lived longer, because I think his evolution of thought would have been really really fascinating to see represented in his work if he had lived to see the 2nd half of the 20th century.

A very intriguing book. I can’t claim to have understood all of it, as the philosophical and Freudian sections were a bit beyond me. But overall it was an interesting perspective, suspect views on women and Freudian nonsense aside.

while this occassionally contains some good analysis, particularly in the realm of positing as sociogenic origin to madness, it is so often obtusely written or devolves into clear misogyny (with a bit of heterosexism for good measure) and going down the many rabbit holes of psychoanalysis. worth bearing in mind that i came into this detesting psychoanalysis but wow, no. not that there’s aren’t great things to be found in here but the majority of this is not as good as its high points

my dad gave me this book for my 15th birthday
