i really really enjoyed another one of ishiguro’s books, never let me go, when i had to read it for school. although i’m not saying i didn’t enjoy this one, i felt i wasn’t as immersed in the characters and overall storyline.

i loved the themes of humanity & hope - you can always count on ishiguro to provide a tragic commentary on what makes us human! i also enjoyed the characterisation of the sun, and klara’s naivety or brave optimism (depending on how you look at it)

it was very similar to detroit: become human in its exploration of AI “friends” and the varying attitudes towards them. love it!!!

i kind of finished it and thought ok well next book i guess! maybe at a different time it would’ve had a bigger impact, or maybe it will become one of those books i’ll think about a lot more once some time has passed. either way, it was good! yeah.

Absolutely loved this book. It shows the necessity of empathy—and, that if our human society loses it, it will still rise up in surprising, kind, sacrificial places. Beautiful & a compelling read.
