SO CRINGE...
"But I'm not like other girls."
"We rescued each other."
The whole Damian and Maxine thing, which could've been good if it didn't turn into INSTA-LOVE.

But I love this ship, even if both characters are kind of washed-out versions of themselves. The plot was also more action, and once again the art and paneling were beautiful.

Might have made the mistake of thinking this was a one shot and not a third volume. Also my first DC comic.! Apolgies in advance for anything lacking in this review.
Alright so this is a guilty pleasure, if you're a young comic reader, if you ship BB and Raven, and or you love Teen Titans, you'll probably like it. Objectively, yeah there's flaws.

Art: I'm not too keen on the style, I do like how Raven's drawn though. The background/props look better than the characters, got a nice watercolor feel. The scenes with powers and junk always look cool though. So the style's simple but has a nice "YA" vibe.

Story: One thing I must learn if I want to get into superhero comics is that there are crap ton of canons. The characters here are much different from the Teen Titans cartoon. It took some time to get used to, but I think it was pretty cool to see these guys in a different light. Feels fresh.
The story itself, it's pretty fanficy and contemp YA feeling. And it does seem to walk aimlessly for a bit. The story's not really the strongpoint, but to an extent neither are the charcters in execution, which I believe is where the divide in the reviews happens. BB and Raven are pretty cute and a guilty pleasure to watch, however the main story isn't strong enough. The climax and their romance are the best bits though. It's just the padding and filler that seems lacking. And the side characters are pretty weak. I did quite like the climax, had some good emotional moments and stakes.

I wasn't such a fan of the first two books, but wanted to give this one, featuring the meet between Beast Boy and Raven, a chance. And I am glad I did. Yes, they didn't feel like the BB & Raven I know and love, but I can see them getting there, eventually. I did think things went a bit fast + the whole sleeping in his hotel room felt a bit off, but they also were cute together. So eh, conflicted. I loved that everyone's thoughts had a certain colour, made it very fun and easy to read. Plus, I loved meeting Damian (YAS). Not sure how I felt about the foster sister, I just found it a bit creepy she went this far, but I did love she controls the dead.
And there was tons of excitement, some scary situations, Trigon, some sightseeing and cute moments. Great art!

Ehhhh… this was fine, I guess. I was so excited to see Beast Boy and Raven come together in this graphic novel, but I also knew I had to temper that excitement because it couldn’t encompass everything that made the pair so good in their original stories—mainly, that it took literal years for BB to get Raven to show even the slightest romantic preference for him. He played the long game and won and we love that for him.

Here, not so much. It’s about as insta-love as it can get. On BB’s side, that actually felt authentic and realistic. He’s a typical teenage dude, thinking more with his hormones than his head, and he saw a hot girl in a coffee shop and decided to shoot his shot. He then, over a slightly rushed period owing to the brevity of a graphic novel, fell for the real her and not just her appearance. That all I could get behind. Raven’s rushed love story, however, not so much—and it’s not even because she’s so different from OG Raven. She’s different even from Book 1 of this series Raven. In Book 1, she’s head over heels for Tommy. They have a very reasonably cute meeting and relationship, followed by a somewhat predictable betrayal. This story is set mere days after those events, and apart from a few thoughts and statements of, “Oh, my last relationship didn’t end well,” she’s already totally down for BB within a few meetings. It just didn’t feel right to me at all. Like they watered down the already watered-down Raven until she’s just sound-bytes.

The dialogue is super cheesy, but passable. I loved the addition of Damian and his anger issues. Little disappointed that he got an insta-love story too, but what can ya do? The art, as always, is stellar. The found family aspect is starting to come together and I’m living for it. That’s what’s mostly keeping me coming back even when the writing gets as cheesy as it did here.

I wish it was longer bc I LOVE reading relationship development but honestly, still cute. I can’t wait for starfire’s book. I guess I’ll also read robins. I guess.
