I learned the hard way that Rebecca Shea can write a story. This story is of a lost young woman. She is struggling to find a place in this cold world. She has no idea how much colder it can get.

I freaking devoured this book. I COULDN'T STOP READING. No bathroom breaks, no email checks, just straight up sliding pages on my kindle. My frantic goal to find out how it all plays out ended in...a cliffhanger. I knew going in but that to be continued came way too fast.(That has more to do with the fact that I read more than a page a minute and the way the story is written than actual length)

Broken by Lies will leave you feeling exactly like the title says...Broken. Alex, sigh, Alex is more than his job. He just can't see a way out. Emilia is lost but feels safe with Alex.

It's all about to change.

Broken by Lies by Rebecca Shea

Imagine a day that started out just like every other…
A sudden unexplained event turns your world on its side and sends you spinning…
What you decide to do now with determine your future…

This is the story of Emilia Adams. Twenty-one years old and alone in the world, she heads to Arizona to find answers. Completely out of her element, Emilia seeks the unknown only to be cast back disappointed and hurt. Trying to locate her hotel room, she nearly mows over a handsome stranger who she feels drawn to. He helps her into her room, leaves her key and tells her to lock the door and not let anyone in.

Alejandro “Alex” Estrada is the son of the head of the Estrada cartel. Strictly a “numbers guy”, Alex is forced to jump in and get his hands dirty when his father and several members of the cartel operations are incarcerated or killed. That is where he saw her, Emilia, going into a seedy motel room alone. Something about her called to him when she almost knocked him down, so when he sees her again, he goes against his better judgment and speaks to her.

Alex offers Emilia a place to stay since she is down to her last fifty dollars. As lost and as helpless as Emilia feels, she decides to take Alex up on his offer. Neither of them know how this situation will fulfill something in each of their lives that they did not know they needed.

First, let me say that I LOVE this book! The dual POV is fantastic and flows with no effort. The twists and turns in this story kept me on the edge of my seat. I felt that I really got to know Alex and Emilia and I can’t wait to see where things go.

I give this 5 out of 5 stars.

I love Rebecca's books, the stories she creates, and the characters she builds. But, this was not one of them. And it kills me to say that. It truly does.

Emilia is alone. On a mission to meet her father, she ends up in a situation she never imagined. Struck low, she's susceptible. It's at this low point that she meets Alex. An attractive man who takes her in. A dangerous man who she knows nothing about. A man who is unsure of what he wants, who he is, and where he's going. But he does know that he wants her.

I did not feel one bit of a connection between Emilia and Alex. I felt it was completely based on something made up and forced. It was insta-love with no love. I mostly skimmed through the sex scenes because the connection was simply not there. I felt that Emilia was naive, and immature. She never once questioned anything, or thought for herself. Which, maybe that was the point, but if it was, I wanted to at least be able to have the keys I needed to unlock that so I could understand her as best I could. I was able to connect with Alex for the most part, and understand his mental struggle and conflict. As far as the story goes, I loved the actual premise of it. It had substance and it was a good idea. I only continued reading because I wanted to find out where the story went.

This certainly won't stop my love of Rebecca's books, and I will read future books of hers; although I don't think I'll continue in this series. But if you love a suspenseful romance with twists, you should give it a try -- You could love it!

(There is a cliffhanger at the end of this book, but I don't feel like that should hold you back from reading it now.)

Aaaaannnnnd……my girl crush continues! Rebecca has done it again. Her writing is the perfect combination of sexy, funny, sassy, emotional, suspenseful and loving. Broken by Lies is the first in her new series Bound and Broken and she does not disappoint. It grabs you from the first page and not only does it not let you go, it sucks you in so far that you're so immersed in the story that you don't even want to get out. Emelia loses the only person she has and leaves her home for Phoenix, AZ. A chance meeting with Alex turns her world upside down. There's finally someone in her life who wants to protect and take care of her. Alex is instantly drawn to her and for the first time in his life he wants more. He wants love. He wants happiness and he wants a new life. They fall hard and they fall fast. Lies, deception, fear, secrets and love. Love. Will Emelia recover from Alex? Will Alex let Emelia into his heart? How many lies are too many? How much deception is too much? What an amazing start to a new series! I can't wait for more!

She's still every bit the stunning woman I remember from last night, but today, she is a beautiful broken girl that I need to help.

"You're important to me, Emilia."
"I've never been important to anyone before."

"I don't need pity kisses. You felt sorry for me. I could see it in your eyes. Don't feel sorry for me." My voice is tense, clipped. Before I can register what's happening, he has me pressed against the wall in the hallway, his lips on mine again. This time, they're needy - hungry.

"I've never felt anything so good in my life, Emilia." She's wet and warm and soft, but it's more than sex, it's more than a mass of bodies.

Circumstances I feel like this whole book was circumstances.
Granted their were twists and things I wasn't expecting.
But I don't get the I love you's so fast. Maybe its the age of the characters. I don't know.
A lot of mystery going on I was constantly thinking this or that and when I got it right I fist pumped the air. lol
Some pretty big shocks. I love who it all connects
The very end there I kinda called that, makes me want to read book 2 and kinda not. Who am I kidding I probably will.
Oh Cliffies how I hate to love you.

- Second listen and I still feel the same ^^^^

This was the first I have read of this author and I look forward to reading more of her work. This book is written in dual POV from Emilia and Alex, and a glimpse from Sam later in the book. I felt like Emilia's character was instantly likable. She was a small town girl with no one and nothing left who ventured out to find more, only to get hit with more heartache. Alex was quite charming with a bit of mystery to him. There were some good twists throughout the book, some I did not see coming. I did feel like the story was rushed a little I really enjoyed it and the author's writing is very captivating. I cannot wait to see where this story goes.

Okay, I have read Rebecca Shea's Unbreakable series and I thought she did very well with that book. But I have to say, she slayed this series. Her story line and her writing is always so flawless. I don't really expect anything less of her. I also liked that there is a few different POV's in these two books, giving us the complete details for a suspenseful read. At some points I could predict what was going to happen but there were some interesting twists that I really liked. Both Emilia and Alex are likable characters.I even thought that Sam was a very likable character. I felt like Emilia and Alex were good with each other and they complemented each other very well. On the down side, I felt as it the relationship moved super fast? i could be wrong. The first book ends with a cliffhanger, so I am very excited that I waited until the second book was released. I feel as if the author could have added another 100 pages and kind of spread the story out. I felt like everything went way too fast. That or I really enjoyed the story.

I thought the book was quite the journey and the whole package. I got the feels, I got whiplash, you get some angsty feelings (my fave), and you get quite a bit of action. Awesome book and awesome author. I am moving on to my review on book two so if you want to stop...STOP!
