What Alice Forgot

I need more books like this!!!! Really tugged at my heart strings. It felt like a worst-case scenario I never could have dreamed of to one day be living as a happy newly-wed with a baby on the way, to next day being a hardened 39 year old gym rat embroiled in a custody battle over three kids with an embittered spouse that has apparently grown to hate you over the past ten years that you don’t remember?

Occasionally a little too close to home about the nature of marriage after children and change, this audiobook was quite well read, and the story was entertaining.

The narrative jumps occasionally to Alice's sister, Elizabeth, who is undergoing therapy, and her grandmother, who is living in a retirement community and writing a blog about herself and her family. To me, these devices were clumsy ways to further the plot, and the main Alice storyline actually stood well on its own without them. I might actually skip them if I were reading the book rather than listening.

Overall I was happy with the conclusion of the book, as it fit the narrative and idea of how people change over time but their underlying self can remain the same. But I would dearly love to know if they managed to get into the Guiness Book of Records!

This book was beyond fantastic. It was so detailed, I felt as if I was also with Alice on her journey to get her memory back. Every page captivated me and kept me wanting for more everyday. It was a great concept for a book, and it played out so well

This book started off on an interesting premise, had great potential, but by halfway through it I was extremely irritated by almost all of the main characters- I felt myself rooting for none of them! The portions where she criticized the "glorification of busy" in our lives were nice, but overall did not really understand what the main point of the book was? The ending was not satisfactory and it could have ended completely differently and I would not even care.

A bit long, but overall great story.

This might now be one of my faves of all time. I highly recommend for married couples with kids especially.
