This story was very different than the first part of the series. There was more focus on two main characters rather than an entire crew. Although the story felt less special/unique than the first book to me, I did enjoy reading it a lot.

I enjoyed the short chapters, it made the book a real page turner. It was a very heartwarming story about purpose and hope with plenty of frustration in between. I liked how the book ended as well. To me the highlight of the book was the chapter when they're in a ship with Tak. It made me "wow" out loud.

Once again, absolutely in love. Devoured this baby in less than a week.

I’m an absolute sucker for an AI/android story due to Detroit: Become Human forever altering my brain and gah do I love this one!! There are two timelines and two different, but intertwining, stories to follow with two different (and yet very similar) AIs. One of them has just been housed in an illegal synthetic body because even this far in the future, AIs are only seen as tools and are not allowed to have autonomous bodies, even the sentient ones. Of course this throws up a lot of questions and ethics and shit to ponder and this book has some veeeeery good bits on that. Absolutely bloody loved it. And this book healed the part of my heart the first one so rudely ripped out so that was very nice as well.

I love that Chambers goes into more detail of other cultures/societies that were only briefly touched upon in Long Way.  Again, love the world-building. Can’t wait to read the rest!

The narrative splits between the intense and harrowing journey of a human born to be a child laborer and an AI who has been uploaded into a body kit. The ending was a bit of a letdown, found it resolved in a "shit I have a deadline and want to just trie things up in a bow without actually resolving the main themes and challenges of the book"

A by turns charming, riveting and heartbreaking portrait of someone learning how to feel at home in themselves.

This was a great follow-up to the first in the series! Sidra was a character I was excited to see the future of from the little bit of the first one, and getting to know Pepper and Blue, especially Pepper's past was so wonderful. Chambers' ability to write deeply emotional and realistic characters in this universe of aliens and humans off of earth is so fantastic. I can't wait to read the rest of the series!

Becky Chambers explores what it means to be a person in every which way throughout this poignant companion to The Long Way to a Small Angry Planet. While initially I was disappointed in not getting to see what the main cast of the first novel were up to, I quickly was swept up in the new family being found in this novel.

This book was heartfelt and emotional in the best of ways, from the interactions between characters to the descriptions of memories, to the heart-wrenching low moments of the two main characters when they hit their lowest points. Without giving anything away, it's the story of two who are more alike than they know trying to make it through their respective journeys and managing the hiccups that come up along the way. I deeply appreciated the world building, much as I did with Chambers' first book, and I can't wait to read the next one when I have a chance.

I enjoyed the first book in this series well enough, but this one was definitely a step up. It had a totally engrossing story, characters I fell in love with, basically the whole package.
