25% done and still don't get what the fuss is all about... probably a lot of Americans references that I'm not getting so ehhhh... giving up on it... seems like script of a dude bro level "deep" movie so ehhhhh

Interesting in terms of a unique POV. Taboo subjects not typically breached just laying out in the open. But I think as someone born post-9/11 that the POINT is lost on me. The American Dream was always a fairy tale.

I'm not sure if it was necessarily my thing, but it was a fun fast paced book with an interesting take on the rise and fall of the 1960s, and there's depth to be found if you dig deep enough (although idk at what point it's the actual wisdom of the author and at what point it's searching for nuggets of sanity in a drug-addled brain). If he's trying to express what i think he is, childish gambino does a better job. Also he did Oscar Zeta Acosta so dirty according to the new yorker. How tf did this man survive until his late 60s???

An attempt was made to create the American "Waiting for Godot" with drugs and guns and sarcasm. Unfortunately it is undercut by the massive privilege of the main character and the terrible behavior of almost every character involved.  This book may have been groundbreaking in its time, but now it is a just a sad, narcissistic ramble full of white privilege and signifying nothing.
