This book is about a selkie. Stories about skelties are always a bit sad. Same for this one. The stories I have read were about female selkies, so it was a nice change to now have the point of view from a male selkie. What I liked about the blue salt road was the writing. It's just hte kind of writing you expect and like for a fairytale. Especially the prologue was beautiful. There it's described how sound is a story. I thought that was beautiful. This story is nothing new, but the prose is good and the pictures are beautiful.

As an object, this book is gorgeous. The design and illustrations are lovely, and complement the evocative writing. I was conflicted while reading (some of the plot points and themes felt resonant and timeless and others a bit too simplistic), but the ending--which is strange and sad and also hopeful--sold me.

Joanne M Harris is an author that never fails to disappoint me; I always find her story-telling superb and this retelling of a folklore was beautifully constructed. An emotional rollercoaster of a book and a lot of points for reflection on how we treat each other, and the animals and world we live with.
My eldest son borrowed this book from the library and I knew I had to read it too - devoured the whole book in one sitting.

This is a beautifully written story. I couldn’t put it down and only did so I could sleep. I devour everything Joanne Harris writes, her writing is magical. This book took me away to another time and place while I was reading it and I’m said that it’s finished even though I was there for such a short time.
