An enchanting fairy tale; about passion, greed, family and upbringing, remorse and regret. It is magical and sorrowful, foreign yet delivering a message meaningful to all. The prose is simple yet lyrical in the style classic to many fairy tales, split into short chapters and punctuated with charming illustrations.

(I personally did not like the overabundance of semicolons, but that is a matter of preference!)

Loved this story, easy but thoughtful read, lovely mythical story that really makes you think deeply about difficult topics of ethics and sexism

This was a quick read. It’s retelling the selkie legend and the character are very two dimensional, but that worked for me as a vacation. The story was an interesting take on the selkie legend and I enjoyed it, but it wasn’t a favorite.

Really enjoyed this and read a lot of it during my lunch break. I love Joanne's writing and this reminded me so much of Pocketful of Crows. The illustrations are also gorgeous!

A good book, but I have limited patience right now for bittersweet endings.

Meh. I was pretty disappointed in this book. I felt 90% of the story was told right away and you had to read 100 pages of it telling it again super slowly before you got 10 pages of new story to wrap it up.

Really pretty cover and pictures though

I love these adaptations of the Child Ballads. This one was exquisite and I long for more.

A stunning tale of love, loss and revenge, against a powerful backdrop of adventure on the high seas, and drama on the land. The Blue Salt Road balances passion and loss, love and violence and draws on nature and folklore to weave a stunning modern mythology around a nameless, wild young man.

Passion drew him to a new world, and trickery has kept him there - without his memories, separated from his own people. But as he finds his way in this dangerous new way of life, so he learns that his notions of home, and your people, might not be as fixed as he believed.

Beautifully illustrated by Bonnie Helen Hawkins, this is a stunning and original modern fairytale.

A powerful story, beautifully told and with gorgeous illustrations.

When I read the first page I wasn't sure I was going to like the book. It felt almost too fairytale like...but, by the third page I was obsessed.

This book was horrifying and humorous.
