Capturing the unspoken language of the selkie, this story is a modern fairy-tale. Since I don't have words to adequately describe the feel of this book, I'll leave it to one of my heroes. Please give a listen to the incomparable Leslie West -(apologies for the ad before the song) - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JBysEkQHr2Y

What a magical book! This retelling of selkie folk tales is gorgeous and heart wrenching. I can't wait to read more by the author!

What does love excuse? When a Selkie and the Folk fall in love, someone is bound to end up heart broken. Does wishing your lover to stay justify enslaving them? Does desiring freedom justify taking their child?
Told from two points of view, each lover trying to find happiness, despite the cost. A sorrowful, beautiful, fairy tale story, like an old ballad. Illustrated, with bits of a song to tie it all together.

She is such a wonderful storyteller. I'm so glad I picked up The Honeycomb from the library which started me off on her tales.

This was a short book that very clearly reads like a fairy tale. The writing of this story was lovely, the descriptions were so beautiful, and the little songs/poems at the beginning of every chapter were a nice touch. I liked it overall
