A funny, heart wrenching, and shocking memoir about growing up in rural Massachusetts. I think the subtitle "A Confessional" fits perfectly. As Fitzgerald explores his troubled childhood and self-exploration into his teens and twenties, you have the feeling that these stories and thoughts have been building inside him, waiting for their moment to burst onto the page in a raw, unfiltered format. This book had me reading quotes to my roommates, laughing out loud, and crying. I discovered a new band, learned about places in MA I've never come close to stepping foot in, and got an unfiltered and often brutal look into masculinity in America.

An honest and vulnerable memoir told in semi-disjointed short stories. Almost had an On the Road vibe. Somehow came across my radar and saw it on the discount shelf at Harvard Book Store. Love the genre even beyond memoirs of famous people as a reminder that everyone has their own stories.

Solid 4.5/5
Really interesting book. I found myself commiserating with Fitzgerald- growing up in the same area, on being raised Catholic, on his being a "pathological accommodator" and family with a "loud house".

He is a super interesting guy and I really enjoyed his perspective on growth, forgiveness, and life.
