Dirtbag, Massachusetts: A Confessional by Isaac Fitzgerald

dark emotional funny sad fast-paced

4.5

A funny, heart wrenching, and shocking memoir about growing up in rural Massachusetts. I think the subtitle "A Confessional" fits perfectly. As Fitzgerald explores his troubled childhood and self-exploration into his teens and twenties, you have the feeling that these stories and thoughts have been building inside him, waiting for their moment to burst onto the page in a raw, unfiltered format. This book had me reading quotes to my roommates, laughing out loud, and crying. I discovered a new band, learned about places in MA I've never come close to stepping foot in, and got an unfiltered and often brutal look into masculinity in America.
