4.5 stars.
4.5 fangs (really, really liked it)
I was given this book by PRATR for a fair and honest review.
what the blur says....The intellectual challenge of college and the warm embrace of a serious boyfriend have given Maya the wings she needs to break away from her bookish and shy reserve. Her ideal life comes crashing down when she and her boyfriend are accosted by a stranger. A stranger with glowing hands. Maya's boyfriend is killed. She is kidnapped. Changed. A rescue comes, but not soon enough. Maya’s senses sharpen, her body becomes strong and agile, and she develops the ability to visually see the emotions of those around her as colourful auras…beautiful auras…tempting auras. And then there’s the song… Now, Maya must struggle to control the murderous appetite that fuels her new abilities, accept her altered condition and learn to trust two vigilante half-brothers she never knew she had. As she joins the battle against a secret network of powerful and destructive beings that call themselves "Angels", Maya vows to find and destroy the one who changed her. On the bright side, at least Maya's oldest half-brother has stopped trying to kill her.
what I say......its hard to come up with something in the paranormal genre, but by Jove, I think she's got it! Angels, but no wings. Feeding, but no teeth involved. Creations, but no evolution involved. this book tells of Maya, how she becomes changed, her life before she was changed, and the one after. it deals with Maya's half brothers and their fight against the Angels, and WHY they are fighting. told almost entirely from Maya's point of view, except one little bit at the beginning. that bit tells the same scene from each of the brother, Gabe's and Tarren's point of view, and I would have liked to have heard more from them as the book went on. Maya struggles with her new life, and fights the need to feed all the time, but the song she keeps hearing is getting louder, more detailed. some animals help, so if you don't like to deal with dead bunnies, maybe not your book! not really an over 18, no sex and some violence to humans, but a little too much to be a young adult, because of the poor bunnies (and fish, but fish aint so cuddly!) I'd say over 16.
grabbing you, right at the start, it does not let up. it also does not finish, and there are more books in this series, and I should like to read them, to see what happens to Maya, Gabe and Tarren, and hope that whoever changed Maya gets their comeuppance!
I really struggle with first person, present tense, I really do. its not my favourite, at all, and that's the only reason I couldn't give it 5 fangs. maybe not right for some, but that's just my opinion.

only a short second instalment, just over a hour reading time, but this tells of how Maya is coping with her change. it lets us into the everyday run of things, with Gabe and Tarren, and how things are done.
it still doesn't let us into the thoughts of the brothers, and I really would like to see that.
Tarren is beginning to relent and let Maya join in the hunt for the Angels, and also letting a little of himself known, I'm wondering where that is going, and I'm not at all convinced that Tarren is entirely human! Gabe is Gabe, and doesn't change much! we do come across the brother of Sunshine, the girl they were looking for in the first book, and again, that's going down a line I cant quite see yet!
Maya still needs to feed, but she has upgraded to fish to rats! ew!!

Had me hooked from the first page. A new and evocatively gruesome twist on angels. Great characters, plot twists, action and interaction. Looking for the next book in the series. Stayed up late with this one.
This was an interesting novel. The monsters in this book (Angels) are actually energy stealing vampires. They don't drink blood, they instead siphon the energy off their victims. They can also absorb the energy directly from the sun but they always hunger.
Maya was a strong character, who tries to overcome the hunger that consumes her. I liked Maya.
Gabe and Tarren are Maya's brothers and excellent characters. I liked how different they were. Gabe was a fun-loving, easy going character and his brother was much more down to earth. Always watching and waiting.
I did have a few issues, I didn't like that the super humans who were genetically made were called angels. They were by far nothing like any other angel I've ever seen, nor are they angelic, they are murderers. The other thing is sometimes the Author lost me with her writing style. Mostly dealing with Maya and her self analysis. The only other thing that I found REALLY hard to deal with is how the characters act. They were supposed to be college aged, yet they acted more whiny, and more immature than my 10 year old son.
If you want to read an interesting new paranormal give this one a try. While not perfect it was well done and enjoyable. And it was definitely a wonderful debut for this Author who I'm sure will improve as her story continues.
Free copy was provided for my honest review by the author. This free book had no influence on my final review.

This is the second book in the "Girl with Broken Wings Series". It is a very quick and short read. I finished in less than an hour.
The character development is much greater defined. You get to be inside her head a bit more and can understand her a bit more.
All in all, a great short story, with some unique aspects. Again it is very short for a second installment in the story and it really doesn't help answer any questions you may have or give you a clear idea of where the story is going. Also beware the language in Coping is quite a bit more risque than in Falling with a pronounced use of the F bomb.
I would consider this a great stepping stone to book 3. But I was a little let down by it not being longer. I give it a 3.5, mostly due to its length and not answering questions I had at the end of Falling.

An interesting book. It's a bit like the show Supernatural when they had a demon partner, if you've ever watched the show. But told from the supernatural partner's point of view.
Pretty simple plot: Surly, guilt-ridden big brother. Younger, less psychologically-damaged little brother. Half-sister who has been transformed into a supernatural weirdo, in this book called an angel. They're looking for the uber-badguy who tried to turn sis into another uber-badguy.
However, the details and pacing make this a great little adventure. I Kindle'd this one, and liked it well enough that I will probably Kindle the next book in the series.

This book has a very interesting concept. Maya is a normal girl until... she is turned into an Angel. This isn't the Angel that we know of, the celestial being in heaven, but a scientifically made monster.
So, now she has to deal with leaving her life behind, seeing a life she could have had but, can't truly have because of who she has become, and coming to terms with her life as an insatiable monster.
Sounds interesting? IT IS! So, why three stars?
Well, we learn a lot of background story and see the characters but, nothing really happens. The ending didn't even seem like an ending just.... that's it for the night. I wanted more growth, maybe some hope? Yet, I'm left with despair... Can they kill the enemy eventually? Maybe? Will they find a cure? Really not looking like it...
I have such mixed feelings. Because I want to like this book and I want to read more but, I really don't. I almost feel it would be a waste of time.
Another complaint, from the way the author writes I can't always tell if Maya is seeing the past/ we are seeing the actual past but, she isn't seeing it, or if it is just her own imagination of the situation. Like with Ryan.... or Gabe's talking about when Tarren and Tammy went to face off with Grand.
Also, I kept getting a Supernatural vibe haha but, that's probably because of the whole two brothers fighting evil.
And I really wanted to like Maya but, I wasn't given anything to hold on to. She might be quirky but, most of the time she is guilt-ridden and in such pain because of the hunger. So, I feel bad for her and it is hard to see her personality, although I understand it is hard to do because of the situation.
So, mixed feelings... I want to know the end but, I'm not sure I want to power through.

Maya has a strong voice but Tarren and Gabe read like off brand Winchester brothers. There is no real resolution to the story, it just gets to a certain point and surprise, buy the sequel please.
