Some stories are definitely better than others, and there’s a couple that I just straight-up don’t really get, even after reading this book about 5 times. My personal faves are Laurie Faria Stolarz’s “The Legend of Anna Barton” and Melissa de la Cruz’s “Shelter Island.”

Only read the one that Amelia Atwater-Rhodes wrote - a short story about Sassy. I was disappointed in how short it was, even for a short story. He was one of my favorite side character's and it would have been nice to see him with more of a story.

This was good book. It wasn't quite scary though, but there were cetain stories that sort of threw a twist at you, which was great, cuz where would we be with predictable stories?

I happened to pick this book up in a library one day, and after reading one of the stories checked it out immediately. Some of the stories were well written and some less so, but most had me hooked. My favorite had to be The Legend of Anna Barton by Laurie Faria Stolarz. It had a great base for a plot, and was one of the only stories that actually had me really scared. There was the right balance of suspense and plot development, and the ending was unexpected but not unbelievable. Another excellent story was Empire of Dirt by Amelia Atwater-Rhodes. The main character, Sassy, was funny and believable, and the plot was creative and engaging. Overall, the well written stories outweighed the others, and its a book I would definitely recommend to others.

I really loved some of the stories in this anthology, some were just OK, and a couple I couldn't even finish. This was a fun Halloween read and a couple stories I wish weren't just short stories, but were full-length stories. I would definitely recommend those for people who want to start their journey in horror novels as they aren't very intense, but are definitely a step above more young adult style horror.

Ages 12+ (a few swears in select stories, one story with sex) Various short stories (divided into sections "Evil" "Darkness" and "Beasts") explore dark themes.

Some sweet. Some sour. Depends on the reader. Almost all of the stories are engaging, even at the lack of well-crafted prose in some.

Some really good stories (you know I loved the Christopher Pike story!), some that were too short but left me wanting more in a good way, and a few that were confusing or just ho-hum.
