An interesting book to look back to, though scholars who came after have taken this structure further. This text has the weakness of many books on fantasy in that it focuses on schematizing the genre and galloping through huge numbers of examples without substantial analysis of individual works. But at the very least it serves as an annotated bibliography of (one scholar's) greatest hits of English fantastic literature.

The fundamental writing about fantasy literature. Manlove approaches the topic via different ways and takes a glance on the different currents of that gerne.

Highly recommended for a first literary overview!
