First half is a little slow but second half really picks up.
Graphic: Vomit, Murder, and Toxic relationship
Moderate: Outing and Police brutality

Thank you to Colored Pages Tours, Penguin Teen, and Adam Sass for providing me with a finished copy in exchange for an honest review!

What better way to kick off the fall season with a fast-paced horror thriller? Your Lonely Nights Are Over is gruesome and bloody, yet surprisingly fun for a book about a serial killer. It’s unique format makes you feel like you’re watching episodes of a TV show rather than just reading a book. Even though the characters aren’t that likable, which they’re already known for, I was hooked on seeing how they would clear their names as all evidence points to them as the killers. There were also some great underlying themes about discrimination, teen relationships, and friendships, which were naturally integrated into the story instead of seeming forced. A super campy, queer slasher book that will get you in the mood for Halloween!

It was a good enough concept that kept me interested but certain things were a little too plot convenient. LIKE WHY THE FUCK DID DEARIE WALK AWAY FROM SOMEONE WHO COULD HAVE DIED JUST TO MAYBE GO FIND SOME CELL SIGNAL. WHY DIDNT HE USE THE PHONE TO RECORD A VIDEO OR SOMETHING. IT WAS TOO MUCH TRYING TO SET UP A TWIST IN THE END
All the characters felt like their sexualities were both stereotypes and also making fun of said stereotypes? They just all felt very one sided to me, but again the concept was interesting enough where at least I could hold out until I got to more of Cole's POV. Dearie absolutely drove me insane with some of his decision making. But the epilogue still got to me and hearing it tie into the author's acknowledgements was very sweet

I am HERE for the Queer Horror Renaissance! Adam Sass joins the ranks of Queer authors doing horror right alongside Ryan La Sala! While YLNAO is a beautifully heartfelt take on slasher narratives, this book centers so heavily on queer and multiracial friendships. That’s the aspect I feel is truly at the heart of this novel.
Another cute feature is the Netflix/documentary interludes. I love it when authors use multimedia approaches to help propel the events of the novel forward. It’s clever and brilliant for keeping readers’ attention.
