Fair start to this Lansdale series. It was pretty good and entertaining. Nothing groundbreaking. But I'll likely continue with these characters in the future.

I'm a bit torn between 3.5 and 4 on this one, honestly. I enjoyed it, but it wasn't as good as COLD IN JULY, and nowhere near as good as Lansdale's MAGIC WAGON or THE DRIVE-IN. With that said, this is a solid thriller in the POSTMAN ALWAYS RINGS TWICE vein, except with more swearing and graphic violence.

This is the first in the HAP & LEONARD series, and their relationship is probably the best part of the book. Mismatched in just about every way, they're still best friends, and readers will probably either enjoy or hate their banter.

The action is solid, but there's a bit too much philosophical meandering and moping over lost love at times.

This has been adapted into long-form TV as a series on SUNDANCE, which I'll look for.

Is it worth reading? Absolutely. But Lansdale's done better.

I honestly wonder if this was written to send up Robert B. Parker, but it's so damn good on its own I'm guessing it's not just a joke. Hap and Leonard are neither hero nor villain nor role model nor poster boy, but original characters doing what they can. Excellent.

Savage Season is full of excitement, humor, and a lot of heart. This is a promising start to a series, and I definitely plan on reading more Lansdale.

Gotta say, this was even better the second time around. And it felt good to confirm I wasn't crazy and misremembering some things after watching season 1 of the show. I do love the show though. Good stuff all around from Mr. Lansdale.

I began the TV series until I learned it was canceled after 3 seasons. Absolutelyloved the series. Ended up finding out there's books and many more of Hap and Leonard's adventures.
I love their relationship and banter as best friends. Much of the time takes place in the late 60s - early 70s., where they're trying to make due and get by.
The books are quick fun reads but also very brutal and dark.
