Oh. My. Gosh. I loved it. This was a while rollercoaster - and it really showed me I wasn't alone. People deal with their trauma in all sorts of different ways (they laugh, they cry, they drink, etc.), and this book was so powerful in that it gave an example of everything. Not everyone was raped, but some of us were groped. Not everyone was groped, but some of us had our asses slapped in high school. It really goes to show just how many people have similar experience to you, just how many people you could share your story with. I would 100% recommend this. It is definitely one of my new favorites <3

This was really hard to get through and very triggering lol, but it was a fantastic collection of essays and look into the nuances of rape culture.

It’s a very tough book to read/listen to. I want to pause for now and get back to it at a later time where I’m in the right headspace to finish it.

This book was so pivotal in helping me understand what happened to me and that I should not feel ashamed or compare my experience to others. Each essay in this book is from such a unique perspective and the voices of the authors are not lost on the format. I adore it and would rec to anyone looking for a book about healing from SA without necessarily a medical/therapy slant

I've come to expect nothing but greatness from Roxanne Gay, and this anthology of essays is no exception. Though each write 's stories and style are uniquely individual, the collection is cohesive.
Dark and raw, these stories drip with honesty, sadness, rage, confusion, and anger. Terrifyingly, one emotion that it lacks is hope. This book is a conundrum, as the tellers are powerful and poweless.
This books has two flaws:
1. That the women who read this will too easily relate to the stories AND
2. The people who should read these stories are the least likely to pick it up. In that manner, I suppose the flaws lie not in the collection, but in society itself.

I wish this had more positive stories of overcoming. It was hard to read for me. I’m sure it’s great for others.
