SIlly graphic novel that spoofs super hero comics. It was so fun. I loved listen to my husband read it out loud, too.

A pun-filled treat for middle grade readers who enjoy school stories, humor, and unlikely superheroes. Krosoczka makes good use of the format with visual humor and classic superhero fight scenes. As a bonus for parents & teachers not sold on this book, a timid character learns to stand up to a bully.

Ha! It was very imaginative and a whole lot of laughing happened. Short and sweet. Good quick read.

What a cute graphic novel for grades 2 to 5. I picked this up because I work as a lunch lady in an elementary school so I could relate to the story. The book is told in pictures but only uses the colors yellow, black and white. It is quite comical how the main character fights off crime using kitchen utensils and I too in real life have questioned some substitutes with their odd behavior. There are other books in this series.

Because of the recommendation of many tweeps (especially @MrSchuReads), I grabbed this graphic novel from my library and... gobbled it down so quickly because of the fast paced story, fun adventures, and neat gadgets! It is so great to finally know what lunch ladies do when they are done with their day job :) Already ordered the rest of the series from the library!

Juliette read this to me so I lost out on the pictures but gained in the mother/daughter department. Nice setup to introduce the series. Loving the lunch ladies!

Funny! Lunch Lady and the Cyborg Substitute is the perfect short spy story. Lunch Lady is full of humor and cool gadgets. Chicken nuggets bombs or fish stick nunchucks, anyone?

VERY cute graphic novel for the elementary set. I really liked the way the author took something uber-familiar (the school setting) and twisted it into something super-cool (superheroes fighting evil robots). This is true in the big picture realm (lunch lady, school setting), and at the small level (fish sticks, lunch trays, etc. all turn into crime-fighting gadgets). I also appreciated the stereotype breakdown that occurs. The girl's the one who's gonna fight all the baddies, the kid with big glasses is the best soccer player, the latino kid is into robotics... It's like he scrambled the expectations, which is very very cool.
