My naturopath advised me to avoid wheat and refined sugars for my headaches and migraines, and this is a nice book with a variety of recipes that fit my weird diet, using whole grains and unrefined sweeteners. A lot of gluten free recipes you see out there (which I use as a proxy for wheat free a lot of times, even though I can eat other gluten grains) are far from wholesome and uses tons of sugar. Which is fine, they aren't trying to be healthy--but I am, so I really love having a book that focuses on low sugar/healthier options! One other thing I really liked about this is that the gluten free recipes do not rely on almond flour. Sometimes I feel like I might turn into an almond, I am so over-almonded from almond flour being the sub for everything.

So far the only recipe I've tried is the snickerdoodle, which was my favorite cookie from my old life (okay, maybe besides ginger molasses). The flavor was great, though the texture was quite dry - I think next time I might try the suggested tapioca/teff combo. And it is nothing like a real snickerdoodle! But it hit the spot.

Pretty, but uses some complex flour combinations (I use whole grain flours but just don't keep that many on hand) and still uses lots of sweeteners. While I do believe that honey has some advantages over sugar or HFCS, still, it's sugar, people! It's not magically "not sugar" just because it's honey. Lots of honey still means lots of sugars in your blood.
