I couldn’t put this book down, every chapter left me wanting to keep reading! I think I’ve found one of my new favorite authors and I’m adding more of their books to my to-read list. A great story about not getting stuck in the fantasy worlds we create and learning to embrace the world we live in. I loved the mystery aspect of this story and trying to figure everything out as it went along. I can only hope we get more of this story in the future, especially since I feel like we dropped the police investigation part of this story too quickly and easily.

This was an action-packed fantasy with a unique premise that played out in a really explosive cinematic way. I loved the found family vibes and the clever way the reveries came to life, but I clocked the villain as soon as they appeared and I found them a little too archetypal/caricatured at the end. On the whole though, this was a fun read and a solid fantasy.

I had really high expectations for this book but I honestly didn't love it. It was a bit of a fever dream? The plot itself (finding out why these dream things take over and trying to find a way to stop them, while main character tries to recover his memories) wasn't bad, but for much of the story the characters were stuck in these dreams. I didn't find it interesting to read about them navigating the dreams or unraveling them; I didn't particularly care whose dream they were in or why a character who was irrelevant/unknown to me was having an issue that would cause the dream. I also didn't find the main characters very interesting or likeable, including the main character Kane. Honestly Poesy, the evil drag queen, was my favorite character despite them being, well, evil (you know, misguided). Overall, it was okay but I don't really think it was for me.

This is a neat story that considers our dreams (the hopes and goals version of dreams, not the REM sleep version) and daydreams and fantasies, and how they impact our lives and our selves. It is a book that somehow seemed grounded in reality and completely fantastical all at the same time.

The characters were a lot of fun, and (even though the ones I felt the most connection to were the older adult side characters, instead of the teenage protagonists) I enjoyed reading their story.

I think this is a case where the resolution will stick with me longer than the rest of the book. I can imagine the details of the story fading, but the general impression of the epilogue sticking around.

This was an absolutely delightful and delightfully queer, exciting, adventurous story with a drag queen sorceress! 🏳️‍🌈
