This book was good - but not as good as I have come to expect from the Harry Bosch series. I liked the introduction of Terry McCaleb, but found there was too much of him, and not enough Harry Bosch.

Another hit. Harry Bosch, but Terry McCaleb is the lead. Great twists. Devilish villains. Good storytelling.

Kinda cool story. I like having lots of McCaleb and Bosch in the same story.

One of the best Bosch novels I've read so far. Harry is a suspect in a murder, as well as part of the prosecution team on another case. There's just something about this character that holds my interest - he's smart, tough, haunted, complicated.

This is not a Harry Bosch novel!!!!!!! I feel cheated and mislead! This book is narrated by Terry McCaleb who is the main character in Connelly's other crime series about Terry McCaleb. I do not like the character of Terry McCaleb, I thinks he's a jerk, and if I wanted to read about him I would read that series not Harry Bosch which is what I wanted and didn't get. For fans of the Bosch series feel free to skip this one, you won't miss much. Also I am very annoyed with Terry McCaleb's friend and work partner Buddy was so annoying I could kill the man myself. He is not a cop or any law enforcement but insists on sticking his nose where it doesn't belong and getting into all of Terry McCaleb's old files when he has no right to and eves dropping and asking questions about the current case which Terry has told him not to on multiple occasions. At one point Terry even thinks Buddy's actions have compromised the case if they want to go to trial but instead of telling the acting officer on the case he keeps it to himself and keeps on. What he himself is doing is compromising the case and it would never hold up in court but the acting officer seems fine with that. Later Terry thinks Buddy may have told a reporter about the case, he is wrong but still it should make him stop and think. Why and how is Terry friends with this idiot. Harry has to come and tell Terry that he is being set up and goads him into actually looking into things that aren't just immediate and coincidental. Totally unbelievable stuff to start with. Any part's Harry Bosch is in he is either in court to which all the dialogue is very dry and there is no action or he is being questioned by Terry. The only action is Harry runs down a witness how is hiding and confronting Terry and that was suspenseful.
