Ahhh! Ending on a cliffhanger and now I have to wait a year! So far loving this series.
i could already feel the resentment building between the two main characters, same thing happened in the other series I read

It was decent, but I did enjoy book 1 more. I’m still looking forward to reading book 3 though!

Defend the Dawn is good. Miss Kemmerer is master story telling. I love her writing style. Full of adventure and action. There is a little of romance there.
However as a second book, the plot is dragging. Some of the scenes/ plot are not necessary at all.
Hence the 3 stars

This had the potential to be four stars, but the abrupt ending ruined it. Kemmerer has a tendency to rush her endings, and this was by far the worst one. It wasn't even a cliffhanger. Nothing in this book was wrapped up. I turned the page, and saw Acknowledgements staring at me. I know this is a trilogy, but what exactly was the point of ending the story in this way?
That being said, I'm happy the main characters went through more growth in this book and didn't act completely out of character like in Kemmerer's previous series. I could do without being told that someone is "brave, clever, compassionate," though. The character's actions should speak for themselves.
