This was a good book, just not one I would have picked up on my own. I only read it because of all the rave reviews. I'm sure many would love it, but it was not a page turner for me.

This book devastated me. The plot is so intricately woven together, the female protagonists are both incredibly brave and interesting, the historical pieces are flawlessly researched and rendered. I hadn’t considered the war from this many perspectives or through the different scenarios that unfolded in the course of this novel. I wept for the bravery, the sacrifice, and the love that encompassed WW2 and that this novel highlights.

This book finished stronger than it started, although I had just finished another beautiful book on similar subject matter so I think this one sufferers by comparison. Difficult to read at times, but a good and vivid depiction of suffering in France during WW2.

This was my second Kristin Hannah book. The Great Alone was my all time favourite book but The Nightingale has now taken first position.

This was an absolute epic book is so many different ways! Books about the war don't usually captivate me the way this one did! I've never loved a book the way I loved this.

I cannot wait to read more of her books!
