This book was predictable, I could tell the direction it was going in from early on. However, it was very engaging and hard to put down
I am so appreciative to Netgalley for the free copy I received in exchange for an honest review!
I would like to preface by saying that I definitely misunderstood the premise of this book- I thought it was a typical NA contemporary story and I'm not sure if I didn't read the full synopsis when I requested it or what, but this type of story isn't really my choice of read.
All in all, I ended up skimming through a good bit of the book as I am not into thrillers, or mystery books, or those with dark undertones. If you are, I think you could truly enjoy this psychological story! But, unfortunately, as a lover of rom-com, NA/YA fiction & fantasy, I couldn't.
I don't think I'll be writing a full review of this book on my blog as I don't believe I could give it a fair examination!

Solid psychological thriller that often has you on the edge of your seat.
TRIPPY! I could see some of this story actually happening. Strong narration made this book even creepier, and the author really kept the flow going.
The first 100 pages were okay so I decided to stick with it but the ending was HORRIBLE! I am so annoyed with it, it left so many things unanswered and we didn’t even learn her real name

What I liked:
-we truly never know the full mystery of the main character and I felt like as much as I was dying to know, I also enjoyed that.
What I didn't like:
-the writing style. It felt like the author was trying SO hard to have beautiful and poetic writing to the point where it was cringy - "Disappointment cracked like an egg in me" was one of my favourites. There were so many that it because distracting.
-our nameless main character was so stupid. How could you POSSIBLY take this position and not think there is something sinister going on? You're an idiot, I'm sorry. Every time something "bad" happened I was like, ah yes of course whereas the main character was like ???? how????
-the ending. Felt so lazy. Like, "I don't know how to write thing buuuuut yolo".
-bad mental health rep (talking about people being/acting "crazy" therefore no one will believe them, disregarding mental health)
-this is marketed as a thriller but it is not.
-TW: lots of domestic abuse in here - neglect, physical hitting, starving main character, gas lighting, etc.
