I loved the wonderful array of characters but the plot dragged for me at times.

There is something so comforting about a well written middle grade fantasy. You can sink into the magical world, confident that you won’t be straight up traumatized, which can sometimes happen with YA and Adult books.
This story was so well done, and so engaging. The magical world was instantly fun and deliciously creepy, and the central quest at its center was just the right amount — it even seems this is a standalone, or it could be at least. No cliffhanger endings here.

The only thing I don’t like about this story is the title— it’s super forgettable and generic and will ultimately be a disservice !

Other than that—read this book of you’re in the mood for a satisfying magical fairy tale filled with delightful details and worthy adventures. Perfect for grades 4 and up.

It was a cozy, satisfying and entertaining book, well written and easy nice reading for an adult. For a kid it's probably a five star read .-)

The protagonist, stomping about in her muddy boots, was enjoyable. The gwyllions made me laugh out loud, and the boggart was as tricksy and amoral as a creature of faerie should be. The last minute revelation of a character whose knowledge could have made the entire plot unnecessary was irritating.

It was a bit mystifying that ultimately Autumn’s trust in the boggart is misplaced, since her faith in Cai (another “monster”) is an important plot point.
