Okay, so this story is basically one big build-up for a funny punchline at the end.

This whole thing was obviously pretty weird (and also might not have even fully made sense), but the twist was surely very fun and surprising.

I just feel like this is one of those stories that will make you simultaneously face-palm, shake your head and reluctantly chuckle.

BRILLIANT! This short story will take you 5 minutes to read and you won't regret it, as a follow up read from Andy Weir's short story 'The egg' I can say with confidence that I will be looking forward  to reading all of his works!!

"Once he saw me, he meandered in my direction and extended his arms for a hug. I slapped him across the face. I hate children."

Lmao I should definitely try this too

A customer at work told me about this story today, and informed me "you'll never guess it! It's brilliant! I got to the part about wanting to feel the sons arms on her body (something like that) and I figured "it's a cat isn't it?" It's not a woman.

Sad I guessed it and didn't get the full surprise but I still appreciated the genius of the story just the same!

Kind of an uncomfortable read, but totally worth it.

Be careful of spoilers.

It's not that the idea
Spoilerof sexualizing cats
squicks me too much to rate this higher, it's that I tend not to appreciate works that rely purely on shock value, without bothering to explore even a single idea in any depth. I am unsure whether the author is even aware of this one's potential, but the atrocious prose and the depressing simplicity of the PoV certainly make me doubt it.
