Definitely scary. Although, kind of sad we didn’t get the Warren story as well

A novelization of the supposed events that happened at 112 Ocean Drive. It omits things that aren't dramatic enough (or that don't fit the narrative), and sensationalises others, then creates and leaves unfinished a cliffhanger ending.

I bought this at a charity book sale, and I can say that the princely sum of 20p is just right for this book.

Kept my attention. I can't believe anyone thought this was real. Like it's so obviously faked. Edited to add that George obviously hated that dog.

The... "true"... story of when the naive Lutz family thought they had found the house of their dream for a bargain but instead received every single nightmare imaginable.
Entertaining and quick read.

This is written like a cross between an enthusiastic book report and a true crime television show.

I thought it would be interesting to check out the source material for such a classic horror movie, but it wasn't. If anything, it made me wonder how anyone believed the events described at all.

Also, despite the time period of the story, it is still jarring to hear so casually about adults hitting their kids and dog and occasionally one another.

Something I will say that felt clear in the movie that also came through in this book was the financial stress that obviously caused a lot of the behaviours displayed.

No idea if Jay Anson every wrote anything else, but I'm not likely to read it if he has. His style is not for me.
