While I don't believe this account is true, it is very entertaining fiction. It was very scary, the perfect book to read during the Halloween season! For 300 pages it went by quickly! It has many differences from the movie too, which I was not expecting.
I'm sure it was scary to read this in the eighties. Not so much now.
The narration is quite dry and to the point, but I was still feeling the creepiness. I don’t personally believe hauntings are real, but haunted house stories are my favorites and this one gave me that spooky feel
only allowed myself to read this at night with all the lights off and a fake fireplace playing in the background and would definitely recommend for the ultimate experience!! the whole time i was reading, i was fascinated by the fact that despite this being nonfiction, the way it’s written can often make you forget that (the pacing for me was always a reminder of its true category) looking forward to watching the film!
This is a little repetitive and, like any story of this type, it's hard to understand why the characters don't behave in certain ways which would seem more logical to the audience. It also suffers from inspiring so many other works since its publication, as anyone coming to this for the first time will likely have encountered most of the surprises elsewhere.

A good spooky October read! A scaaaary one! As much of a skeptic as I am, best believe I’m not buying a murder house because it’s a good deal. SMDH
A great horror story in the vein of the Exorcist. I know that this story is touted as true, but I, the eternal skeptic, highly doubt it. My guess is, knowing the house’s history got to the Lutz family and their minds started playing tricks on them. In any case, this was a great scary story and had several super creepy parts.
Very interesting true story about a paranormal haunting. I loved the format of the book, it takes on a documentary style. Easy yet haunting read.
This type of book is always entertaining to me. I especially liked that I had watched the movie. I could see just how much the movie changed what was really reported by the family.
